Tribute & Message From The Family

HAVERHILL - Stephen Kent Breen of Haverhill, passed on November 21, 2017 after a long illness. Born in Woburn, MA, Stephen graduated from Stoneham High School in 1964. He maintained friendships with his school friends all his life.

He married, had two children and opened a deli in Winchester center. When his parents died, he closed the deli in order to also support his two sisters who were then underage.

Stephen worked at various jobs, often as a chef at small restaurants. He became an event planner for a spiritual workshop group in Cambridge and then a Reiki Master. He managed a metaphysical bookstore in Andover for many years while practicing his spiritual healing skills.

When he retired, he ran a small handyman business building bookshelves and mantels and installing kitchen cabinets. He was known for his caring spirit and wonderful sense of humor.

Stephen leaves his wife, Joan Holloway of Haverhill, a sister Mary Ellen DePetro of Clinton, MA, a sister Una Breen of Texas, a daughter Kristen Eck of Albany, NY, three grandchildren and two step daughters, Karen Thomas of Beverly, MA and Jenny Holloway of Monroe, LA.

There will be no wake or services according to Stephen's wishes. Only a private ceremony with his immediate family.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Stephen's spiritual energy, I am sure, touched the lives of many. He knew what was important and, in the end, no one can ask for more than that.
God bless you all, Gen Schmidt Buzzotta

Stephen was a gentle spirit, pleasant to be around, with a great sense of humor. Participating in Stephen and Joan's wedding was one of the great privileges of my life. I'm sorry there wasn't more time - he is much missed.

I met Stephen on line in Facebook. He fought hard the last few months. I have been where he went and I know he will be in a great place without any pain. He brought all the LOVE he had with him. I was in the class behind Stephen Class of 1965. My brother Bill Brundage graduated with Stephen in 1964. Bill passed Nov. 20 1998,

You were a friend to all....generous to a fault...with a kind heart. You are in our prayers, Steve. Sleep well, buddy.

Stephen also leaves lasting memories of his wonderful sense of humor and his openess. We had lots of time together over the years that we could talk and share our hopes and fears and laugh at and with each other. We were Best Man at each other's weddings, enjoyed our time together at the ICA - Inter-Church- Associates - which was basically an inclusive self governing multi town partying social group, and many other times sporadically throughout our lives. I'll always miss him but his smile and laughter will always be with me.

I remember Stephens smiling face all the way back in time from elementary school. He was always such a positive, good person. A few years ago, when I learned that Stephen lived in Haverhill, I contacted him, and we met at a downtown coffee shop. Hadnt seen him in over 50 years, but he hadnt changed (except we were both a tad heavier). We talked for a long time, with Stephen telling me about his life, his wife, and his new home. We all will miss you Stephen, and will never forget your smiling disposition.

I only met Stephen once when visiting family in America but I was pleased to see how happy he made my lifelong friend Joan. May he rest in peace.

I treasure my friendship with Stephen and will always remember him as a truly caring man. When my husband was on his final journey, he came to visit him in our home and stayed and talked for a long time. That meant a lot to my husband, and to me. Now,living so far away, I could not do the same when he was ill and that makes me sad . Joan, my condolences and love.
