Obituary for Edward F. Wholley, Sr.

August 31, 1933 - September 30, 2019
Haverhill, Massachusetts | Age 86

HAVERHILL - Edward F. "Ed" Wholley, Sr., 86, of Haverhill, died Monday evening September 30 at the Holy Family Hospital, Haverhill after a very brief illness.

Ed was born in Haverhill on August 31, 1933, the son of the late Edward V. Wholley and Lietta (Jacques) Wholley.

He was a lifelong resident of Haverhill until his retirement at which time he and his wife, Patricia, enjoyed residing in Florida for some years, eventually moving back to Haverhill.

He was educated in the Haverhill schools and graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1951.

In his early years he was quite active at the Haverhill Boy's Club, coaching teams in the grammar school leagues and followed the Haverhill High Sports teams closely with his sons for many years.

He was employed by Whittemore Pontiac in Haverhill for a number of years and went on to finish his career as an automobile salesman at Jaffarian Toyota / Volvo in Haverhill. Ed had a very dry sense of humor and some of his happiest times as his family remembers are of he and his close sales associate friend, the late J.C. Maglochetti, bantering and sharing the showroom floor at the Jaffarian dealership.

Ed had a daily ritual of reading the local and Boston newspapers as well as a passion for books and magazines. He was an avid sports fan and even at his age could easily rival and impress his grandsons with his ability to remember all types of statistics for any sports team or player. He also enjoyed all types of music from classical to the Eagles, cooking and a good glass of wine.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia, son Kevin and brother Terry. He is survived by his three sons, Edward F. Wholley, Jr. and wife Susan, Steven R. Wholley and wife Debra, son Daniel Wholley; longtime close companion, Gail Decelle, all of Haverhill. His survivors also include his sister Jeanne Wholley Cetlin of Exeter, NH and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

There will be a private family gathering at a future date to celebrate and remember his life. At the request of Ed, there will be no calling hours or formal services. Arrangements by Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill. For guestbook, please visit
